Good Grades
By Taylor Ledbetter
How can I keep my grades up? People ask that question all the time, and I have some tips that might be useful.
First of all ask yourself this. What time do I go to sleep? Eleven year old boys and girls should get ten hours of sleep. So if you wake up at 6:00 you should go to bed at 8:00. If you wake up at 7:00 you should go to bed at 9:00. If you get too much sleep you can actually get too tired and not be focused. If you don’t get enough sleep you are in a pickle. Sleep is a big part of school because sleep is how you get a lot of your energy.
If you can’t fall asleep and you are having trouble then you are reading the right paragraph. There are many ways of falling asleep. One way is to count sheep and if that doesn’t work for you then keep listening. Go to Wal-Mart and get a book light. They are only 1.00 dollar and they work really well. It helps you get tired and you can catch up on your reading.
If you don’t eat breakfast then you really need to read this paragraph. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Here are some breakfast foods you could eat. Jimmy Dean breakfast foods, sausage, even pizza. Now I know what you are thinking “pizza.” What? But pizza is actually full of protein. Surprised, so was I when I found out about it. There are many more breakfast foods, there’s even a breakfast food aisle in Wal-Mart. Go down it if you have to, pick out some breakfast foods, there are a lot of choices. Eating breakfast gives you a lot of energy. It helps you out with a lot of things.
Say you had a big test and you didn’t do the greatest. Ask your teacher if she is doing extra credit you can get extra points and maybe even learn something new. If you have a big test use common sense and study. If you think you know everything ask a parent if they can quiz you. If you don’t do the hottest on that study it over again, and have your parents quiz you again. If somebody sitting next to you is bothering you ask to be moved it won’t hurt to ask. You can pay attention better and concentrate more.
Now I know all this information is confusing, but it is worth it. I do every single step on this page and I am doing pretty well in school. So if you are one of those people who are struggling then do these things on this page. Trust me it will pay off.

6th Grade Challenge Math
Sixth grade challenge math is in 8th period. Currently the challenge math class is doing a project on designing your dream bedroom. You will design your room, find items to put in your room, and add up the prices and hand it in. The projects have already been turned in. To receive an “A” you would need to: 1.)draw your design to scale 2.) keep track of all expenses 3.) let your personality show throughout your room 4.) and keep a scrapbook of all of the items that you chose. To receive a “B” you need to: do steps 1-3. Good Luck!!!!!!!!

Mrs. Isom’s 4th period class had a good experience last Friday when they Skyped Marsha Gorren. She is good friends with Mrs. Isom. She lives in Israel, and her mother survived the Holocaust. The 4th period class got to ask her questions about what Israel is like and about her mother in the Holocaust. Marsha said her mother went through four concentration camps. Mrs. Isom’s 4th period class may get to Skype Marsha at a later time.

You have probably heard of Acrodunk from America’s Got Talent or from friends, family, or fellow classmates. Well, guess what? You may get to see them in person!! Right now we are still determining if they’re coming, but we are pretty convinced that they’re coming. Even though the last magazine sales didn’t raise enough the school is letting it slide and trying to get them to come. So don’t be dejected when we say “we aren’t sure yet”. So cross your fingers! I’ll keep you updated on our decision.

Last Thursday, 8th Grade band and Vocal Music put on a show for friends, family and teachers. The band preformed very well and even got the entire crowd off their feet. They played 4 songs, including North Platte High’s very own fight song. “Final Impact”, the song that started off the concert, was well played and showed off the talent of the kids. The second song was on that many of us know, “If I were a Rich Man”, from the popular musical Fiddler on the Roof. Third song they played was “Ancient Voices”, it included some erie air blowing and a gong. The final song is one we all know “The Fighting Bulldogs”, our school song. When they started playing this the crowd stood up and clapped along. A wonderful response to some very talented kids.
The Vocal Music class this trimester also put on a great show. They sang songs that required high level talent and pulled it off. They sang Walk Dem Bones, which many kids know as ,toe bone connected to the foot bone, and so on and so forth. Song number two was Will You Be There, originally sung by Micheal Jackson. They had two soloists in this song, Katie Roessler and Kate Sterling. The next song they sang was Sleigh Bells, a song with a lot of jings, lings and rings. Up next they had a tribute to the upcoming Veteran’s Day. Hannah Lee gave a great performance as she sang, “Travelin Soldier”, by the Dixie Chicks. Her performance brought tears to most of the crowds eyes. Their forth song was “Cantate Domino”, though it was not in english the messege of this song was clear, these kids can sing. That song had solos from Andrew Parish, Jacob Perez and Derrik Langley. The last song brought Hannah Lee back to the microphone and also brought up Tessa Howitt. Both girls did an amazing solo in the song “Amazing Grace.”
There was one aspect of this concert that was Adams history. This was the first Adams cncert to be broadcasted live on the internet. Come and watch this great concert yourself at:http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2499471

In Reading class on the 6th grade blue team, classes have just finished Freak the Mighty, a story about two friends who both have something that stands in their way. This week students are going more in-depth into the storyline of Freak the Mighty such as why Freak became friends with Max. On Friday, students went to room 703 to watch The Mighty, a movie of the book. Students got to bring a snack to have while watching the movie. After the movie, students did activities involving the book and movie such as making a Venn Diagram with the similarities and differences of the book and the movie. Many students enjoyed the chance to watch the movie.

I recently had the opportunity to ask Angel Renninger, the band teacher at Adams Middle School, a few questions. This is her 5th year at Adams, but this is her 20th year teaching. Her love for music began when she was little and she took piano lessons then quit so she could start band and practice more instruments. She became interested in band in high school but there it was just for fun. In college she took one music class and it was so easy that she wanted to keep doing it. She can play all of the instruments except string instruments and the trap set. Her favorite instrument is the trombone because it doesn’t have any keys and it is important to the band. She enjoys being a band teacher because she gets to work with all of her students. Many of the band students enjoy having Mrs. Renninger as their band teacher and look forward to having many more fun years with her.
